He looked into his future
But all he could see was his past
So many scars and sutures
A photograph of things that didn’t last
Was there a small lapse in his brain?
Because for a moment, he seems to reach through
A short freedom, he lets go of his pain!
Then without delay, his demons begin to pursue
It is a glorious moment! He wishes he could hold firm
Before he even knows it, he is plunging into dark waters
He tumbles perpetually down a heckling berm
His balance erased, toward the edge of darkness he totters
With a spelunk and a splash, he crashes into the murky
His breath steals away, he knows what is coming
His cognitive distortions aroused, begin to get perky
Fallacies and lies, the deceit is now humming
He knows to think right, but he has not the vigor
And so slowly he sinks, his lungs rapidly filling
Here in the pit, all of the monsters look bigger
In the end, his heart was too ill…even though it was willing
